Trooper Shawn Snow was electrocuted while assisting a driver change a flat tire on an antique fire truck in Ogdensburg.

As Trooper Snow and the truck's driver worked on the tire, the fire truck's ladder came in contact with overhead power lines. Trooper Snow and the truck driver were both killed instantly.

Trooper Snow had served with the New York State Police for 19 years and was assigned to Troop B. He is survived by his wife and children.

(CBS/AP) A veteran state trooper and a civilian were electrocuted while fixing a flat tire on an antique fire truck when the truck's ladder touched a high-voltage power line, police said.

The fire truck, from the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation, was being returned to Canada from a parade near Syracuse when a tire went flat near the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, said Ogdensburg Police Chief Richard Polniak.

State Trooper Shawn Snow was under the truck fixing the tire while Pierre Surprenant, 51, of Lachenaie, Quebec, extended the truck's ladder to distribute the weight away from the flat right rear tire. When the ladder hit the live wire, both men were killed instantly, police said.

The St. Lawrence Chapter of the Warthogs M/C invites you to our Second Annual Shawn Snow Memorial Ride. If you were not aware Shawn was electrocuted Sunday, August 3, 2008 while assisting a stranded motorist change a flat tire on an antique fire truck on the approach to the Ogdensburg Prescott Bridge. Trooper Snow and the motorist were accidentally killed when the fire truck's ladder came in contact with overhead power lines. Trooper Snow had served with the New York State Police for 19 years and was assigned to Troop B.

With the support of Shawn Snow’s family this ride has been established to raise funds for the Shawn W. Snow Scholarship Fund. This scholarship has been created to assist students who are entering into their first year of college and seeking a degree in criminal justice. Last year’s event raised over $5000.00 towards the scholarship. This spring the Snow Family and the St. Lawrence Chapter of the Warthogs were proud to award five students with scholarships for the 2010 fall semester.

Rain or shine the ride will begin and end at the Paul A. Conroy Jr., AMVETS Post 1997, 60 State Street, Heuvelton, NY 13654. The AMVETS will be offering a breakfast for $5.00 during registration. Registration starts at 9am thru 11am, $20.00 a rider and $5.00 additional for passengers, ride departs at 11am and scheduled to return by 5pm. Stops will be in Gouverneur, Fine, and Hermon, travelling over 100 miles. The dinner this year will be prime rib prepared by Donny Bellinger and Brian Brown. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction again this year.
