New York was still in mourning their dead from the 11 September disaster when it was hit again with a tragic loss of life.

NEW YORK -- On November 12, 2001, at approximately 9:17 a.m., American Airlines flight 587, an Airbus A-300-600, N14053, crashed into a neighborhood in Belle Harbor, New York, several minutes after taking off from Kennedy International Airport. The plane was on a scheduled flight to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. All 260 persons aboard the plane died, as did 5 on the ground.

Family members visited the Flight 587 Memorial Wall, where the angel for those victims was displayed and distributed to those in attendance at the Memorial Service marking the anniversary of the crash. |
| With the assistance of Council General of the Dominican Republic (right), this beautiful work will be presented to the President of that country, where it will be displayed in a public setting of honor and respect for those that were lost. |
